2013 SUNOCO SUPER CHALLENGE POINTS SERIES
2013 SUNOCO SUPER CHALLENGE POINTS SERIES
In 2013, RacewayPark will continue with its Sunoco Championship Points Series. Racers may compete in the series races even if they do not wish to be a part of the points series, but there are several benefits to being a part of “Team RP”. Drivers may compete in more than one eliminator on the same day, but it is their responsibility to be in the staging lanes when called. If the same car is used more than once in an eliminator, such as two racers sharing, it is the driver’s responsibility to make sure the car number is correct for the current racer.
The 2013 points sheet may be found in this issue of the Raceway News for those interested in competing the competitive points series. Drivers can sign up for points by mail, or at the track on a race day. In order to gain points on a race day, racers must sign up prior to first round. One bonus point will be awarded to all who have signed up for their respective category before first round on the category’s initial points day. No back-dating of points allowed. If you change points classes you forfeit all points from the class you were in and can not get them back if you change back to that class. Points will be earned from date of sign up. NHRA competition numbers and memberships will be honored, and will be required of all drivers qualified for the NHRA Division 1 Summit ET Finals. NHRA numbers and memberships are available through the NHRA. One of the benefits of being an NHRA member is that it makes you eligible for the National DRAGSTER Be a Winner/Be a Member program. Your name will automatically be entered into the program if you have an NHRA membership number and win an eliminator on a race day. The program qualifies racers to win prizes through the National DRAGSTER.
Points will be awarded in the following manner:
- By signing up for points by the first point's day, April 7, you will receive 1 bonus point.
- By staging your car in the first round of eliminations, you will receive 1 point.
- For each round you win during eliminations, you will receive 1 point.
- Ties:
- Number of Eliminator wins.
- The ##rating point system will be in effect.
- Ties that need to be run-off will be run-off on the Last Day of Points, if needed. If tie is for position only a coin toss will be done.
- Racers will be responsible to contact the track office, no later than 10:00 AM on September 3, following the last day of points, to state whether or not they will be racing on Raceway Park's team for the NHRA Div. 1 Summit ET Finals on September 19-21, 2013 (Raindate September 22) at Numedia Dragway. NO EXCEPTIONS!
## The rating point system:
Each driver will be rated according to his/her position in the standings. The rating system will begin after competition on the fifth point's day. The rating will be as follows: If a racer is in first place, one rating point will be awarded; second place will receive two rating points, third place will receive three rating points, etc. If two or more racers are tied with the same amount of points for any position, they will each receive the same amount of rating points i.e. tied for fifth each racer gets five rating points. After the sixth point's day, the rating numbers will be increased based upon what place the racer is in. This will continue through the end of the Points Series. On the last points day, if a racer is in seventh place and earns enough points on that day to move him/her into a tie for third place, the racer with the lower rating points will finish the year in third place and the higher rating points racer will be fourth. The only way a runoff will be necessary is if the earned points, number of wins, and rating points are the same. If after the tiebreaker, a result for a position has not been determined, a one-run run-off will occur.
JOIN NOW AND RECEIVE:
- Sunoco Super Challenge Points Series membership.
- Raceway Park permanent number (NHRA number and membership highly recommended now for the NHRA Div. 1 Summit ET Finals competitors).
- Membership card and decals. (Decals distributed only to the classes eligible to compete at the NHRA Div. 1 Summit ET Finals.)
- FREE entry to the NHRA Div. 1 Summit ET Finals, if qualified.
-
If you have qualified for the NHRA Div. 1 Summit ET Finals and choose not to attend the event representing Raceway Park you will not receive a Team Raceway Park Points Jacket. Therefore the alternate racer will receive a jacket.
-
In some cases, points leaders may be invited to compete for fun during Raceway Park’s Summer Family Thrill Show Wednesday July 17. Racers will be chosen based off their position in points prior to the event. Please call or e-mail Cheryl Beck at RacewayPark if you think you may be eligible so you can be placed on the credentials list. This opportunity includes a free entry for the driver, as well as one free guest pass for the event. etownrcwy@aol.com or 732-446-7800.
