RUSSELL, RENDER, NIERADKA, GEORGE & FOCARINO ALL WINNERS AT ENGLISHTOWN’S NATIONAL DRAGSTER CHALLENGE EVENT

On May 29, Old Bridge Township Raceway Park hosted a NHRA National Dragster Challenge event.  Steve Russell, Kevin Render, Tom Nieradka, Ken George, and Joe Focarino all accepted a NHRA Wally trophy for the event win in each of their respective categories.

Steve Russell, who described time shots as “over-rated”, earned the event win for Super E.T. in his 2000 S&W Dragster after a final round victory over Matthew Eitel.  Russell broke his throttle cable during the only time trial he would receive at the National Dragster Challenge event, but had help from his wife Arlene to fix the car for first round.

  During a double break-out final, Eitel ran too fast with a 7.748 e.t. (7.78 dial) against Russell’s closer 7.987 e.t. (8.01 dial).

Kevin Render defeated Bob Beucler in a double break-out final as well while competing in Liftec Forklifts Pro E.T.

“I had some really close races and made some really good runs,” said Render.  “One of those really close races was in the final round.  Bob and I were both running great that day, and it came down to a .006 margin of victory.  It was an awesome race to end the day with,” said Render.

Render left the starting line first as the slower car with an almost perfect .005 reaction time and ran 11.856 e.t. (11.86 dial).  Beucler ran a slightly quicker 10.740 e.t. (10.75 dial).

Tom Nieradka earned himself his first Street E.T. category win against John Iacono during the day’s special event.

“I’ve been in a handful of final rounds, but this win is by far my most cherished one,” said Nieradka.

Nieradka described his final round as “the toughest of the day”; as he recalled Iacono’s perfect .000 reaction time against his .008 reaction time.  On the top end, Nieradka made the right decision to use the brake pedal and earned the win light with a closer 12.571 e.t. (12.61 dial).  Iacono ran a 15.318 e.t. (15.38 dial).

In the Motorcycle/Snowmobile E.T. final, Raceway Park point’s leader Ken George defeated Rick Mazzola.  Mazzola red-lit off the starting line, which gave George an event win and Wally prize.

George’s ’97 Suzuki ran an 8.775 e.t. (8.74 dial) over Mazzola’s 9.508 e.t. (9.42 dial).  George has six event wins for 2011 in the Motorcycle/Snowmobile category at Raceway Park and is gearing up for the Northeast Division Summit E.T. Racing Series Bracket Finals in September.

Joe Focarino, of Old Bridge, NJ, earned the final Wally trophy of the event with terrific driving against competitor Rob Farley during the Top Street final.

On the starting line, Focarino left the starting line with a .008 reaction time.  With a tighter package on the finish line of the drag-strip, he earned the win over Farley with a 10.811 e.t. (10.76 dial) against an 11.466 e.t. (11.44 dial).

FERGUSON REFLECTS ON FIRST WALLY WIN AT OLD BRIDGE TWP. RACEWAY PARK

David Ferguson, Newburgh, NY, earned his first Wally trophy during Old Bridge Township Raceway Park’s 3rd Annual Motorcycle/Snowmobile King of the Track event on April 3.

“I guess you just need a little luck,” said Ferguson, who has raced in over eleven final rounds without ever clinching an event.  To Ferguson, winning the NHRA Wally and claiming a King of the Track title is a dream come true.

During eliminations of the recent Motorcycle/Snowmobile King of the Track event, Ferguson defeated Raceway Park points racers Ron Reagan and Mike Ostrowski.  Then, he also eliminated Kyle Goekley and Charles Dominique before reaching the final round where he raced an all-sled final against fellow points racer Charlie Koenig.

Ferguson chased Koenig off the starting line with a .004 reaction ti me advantage.  On the top end of the drag-strip, Koenig ran further under his dial (10.69) with a 10.510 elapsed time.  Ferguson earned the win light during the double break-out final with a 9.661 e.t. (9.71 dial).  DSC_0050.jpg

“The race was a struggle,” explained Ferguson.  In addition to being sick with a terrible cold, Ferguson battled electrical problems on his sled which kept him extremely busy in the pits throughout the event.

Regardless, Ferguson kept himself focused on the track.  His reaction times were consistent and he managed to keep his ’95 Arctic Cat dialed-in throughout the day.

“Winning the NHRA Wally is indescribable.  All I wanted was one, now I’m very happy,” said Ferguson, who plans on continued success for the rest of the 2011 season at both Island Dragway and Raceway Park.  He hopes to earn a spot into the NHRA Division 1 Summit E.T. Finals in September.

Ferguson thanked Arctic Adventures, Yonnone’s Recreation, DLF Excavating, Power Seal USA, and his wife, Eileen.

CAROLYN BECK WINS JIM HARRINGTON MEMORIAL HIGH SCHOOL CHALLENGE

Congratulations to Carolyn Beck on her win during May 22nd's Jim Harrington Memorial High School Challenge race.

Beck defeated Joe Russo in the final round.  Her better reaction time gave her a the finish line advantage over Russo and earned her a spot on Team RP for the 2011 Bracket Finals.

TEAM ECS & AMERICAN RACING HEADERS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THE "ALL NEW" GM EFI RACE SERIES 15 AT RACEWAY PARK

Team ECS and American Racing Headers proudly announce a new format for the GM EFI Race Series 15 along with additional race dates for 2011 at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.

The series will consist of an 8.90 Index class and a Bracket class largely due in part to our many sponsors for making this new series possible. We would like to thank Comp Cams/Fast, Mantic Clutch and TR's Auto Body.
The season will consist of eight points races which will be held on the same Saturdays as the East Coast Supercharging Corvette Challenge dates: April 23, May 21, June 11, July 23, Aug 20 & 27, Oct 22 & 29.

In addition, the top two points racers in each class will be invited to race at two Raceway Park Summer Shows - 36th annual Snap-on Tools Night of Thrills presented by P.C. Richard & Son - Saturday, June 18 and 41st annual P.C. Richard & Son Summer Motorsports Spectacular - Wednesday, July 20.

The series classes are open to all GM EFI equipped vehicles, Corvette-Camaro-GTO-G8-Caddy-Trucks, etc. Both classes are eligible for the points series. Sign up in the tower on race day before first round. There will also be some end of season product giveaways from our sponsors to the points champions, so don’t forget to sign up!

Rules and payouts will be posted shortly along with our official website name.

We are posting this announcement now since the original GM EFI race technically starts on April 2.

This date will be considered a Warm-Up race and will not count towards the points season.  As you can see from some of the big name sponsors on board, we are expecting some healthy payouts for the racers.

Special thanks to the ECS team members Dave Harris and Jay McCardle, who not only are personally sponsoring this series but are the ones who got the ball rolling to motivate this all new series, along with many hours of set-up.

NEW TROPHY ELIMINATOR DUEL FOR BEGINNERS AT RACEWAYPARK IN 2011

Raceway Park will run an all-new Trophy Eliminator Duel category during the 10 Sunoco Championship Race Series Sunday events.

The Trophy Eliminator Duel is designed for beginners looking to make time shots with their street-type vehicles while gaining an understanding of “Bracket Racing” as they compete against other novice competitors.

The new category will give the racers the opportunity to make three runs down the drag-strip with the purchase of a $25 tech card.

The first two runs will be qualified by elapsed time.  Then, the final run will be an elimination round.  The tower will automatically dial-in the competitors a .10 quicker than their quickest e.t.  Any vehicles that qualify with an e.t. quicker than 11.60 will automatically be dialed-in 11.50 e.t. for the elimination round. This category is for 11.50 e.t. – 19.99 e.t. street-type vehicles.   Racers will be randomly paired in the staging lanes.

The object of the elimination round is to determine which racer has a better reaction time off the starting line, and runs closer to the dial-in.  The winner of the elimination round will earn himself/herself a trophy!

All participants must have a valid registration and insurance card, and four D.O.T. tires.  Sorry, no trailered vehicles or points racers will be permitted.  GOOD LUCK!!!
