New Drag Strip Operations Manager Hedenburg looks ahead into 2013
This coming race season Old Bridge Township Raceway Park will welcome a new Drag Strip Operations Manager John Hedenburg. He sat down with Raceway News to discuss the upcoming season and some changes he hopes will have a positive impact on this year’s Sunoco Super Challenge Points Series. “First off I want to thank Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, for selecting me as the new Drag Strip Operations Manager.” Hedenburg says. “My goal in 2013 is to give each and every racer the best possible experience they can have this year. As a local Raceway Park bracket racer since 1993, I am passionate about the sport on both a bracket and heads-up level.” he continues. Hedenburg, a Raceway Park track official from 2006 to 2009, says he brings with him a love for the sport and a vision to make some changes to the current program in hopes of achieving his goal to give the racers the best possible racing experience they can have. “Some of the exciting things I feel will be positive changes to our Sunday Sunoco Super Challenge Championship Points Series classes. A total of 12 points days will make up the 2013 season. Super Pro and Pro ET both will have a slight entry fee increase. With that said, both classes will come with a noticeable increase in payouts across the board, and the racers I’ve spoken with are mainly in favor of this.” he says. When asked about the other race classes competing, he replied, “Entry fees and payout structures for Street ET, Motorcycle/Bike ET and Top Street will stay the same.” But for the new Drag Strip Operations Manager, there are more changes he is implementing, in hopes of making the racers want to be involved in the Sunoco Super Challenge Championship Points Series. “Something I feel would benefit the racers this season is to have the option to drop his or her worst two points races from the season.” It should be noted this is with the exception of the last points day, will count for all participants. He continues, “You will now have your two worst points days eliminated from your total, which will benefit someone who might have mechanical problems or simply can’t make a race for whatever reason. Another exciting and positive change for this year will be that we are bringing back two time shots for both Super Pro and Pro ET, but depending on delays and car counts, we may have to alternate time shots on a week by week basis. This will at least give our racers some extra track time, which will be enjoyed by everyone,” he says with a smile. “In closing, I would like to thank the Raceway Park staff for giving me this incredible opportunity and am looking forward to a bright, fun-filled season in 2013. I am hoping I will get racer support and feedback this year. I ask any racer to never hesitate to bring up any issue as I believe working together is the best way to have a great program. I look forward to working with all of you and good luck to all of you.” Look for “On the Strip with John Hedenburg”
